A GPS or global positioning system is used to determine a particular location by using signals from satellites that are orbiting the Earth. It works just about anywhere on the planet, including most remote locations. To be able to successfully use a GPS system, all you need is the receiver and a sky that is clear enough to receive signals from satellites.
Common uses for a GPS system include vehicle navigation, tracking business assets, mapping outdoor recreation (hunting, fishing, etc,) and sporting. The GPS is now helping in saving property and lives throughout the country. Many fire, police and emergency units are able to use a GPS system to determine the nearest vehicle to an emergency. This enables the quickest response when needed.
